UKHospitality estimates that 95% of skilled worker visas that were gained last year would be lost under the new regulations. That is a vital sector for my local economy in Edinburgh and for Scotland, so when will the Government recognise that the revision to the salary level was not sufficient and bring it down to a reasonable level?
The Prime Minister is right to point to the consequences for all our constituents of the Houthis’ direct attacks on shipping. He is also right to talk about the dangers of inaction, but can I add my voice to those who have pointed to our inaction in this place towards the Islamic Revolutionary Guard? We now see the malign hand of Iran throughout the middle east, creating situation after situation. Does the Prime Minister not think the time has come to proscribe the Islamic Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organisation?
I share the expressed concerns about the lack of an Executive in Northern Ireland and about support for the NHS, which is struggling. However, as the Minister mentioned, we are seeing similar problems across the United Kingdom. If it is one of the Prime Minister’s priorities, could he not meet the leaders of the NHS in each of the devolved nations, and the leaders of those devolved nations, to discuss how they can learn from each other and perhaps tackle the problem on a wide scale across the board? <Question HRSContentId="{BD740CC3-AC43-4D43-9920-998273B212ED}">13. <QuestionText HRSContentId…full text ↗
To be absolutely clear, Lords amendment 2B addresses the concerns that many of us in this place have about the right to strike and how it will be protected. How are the Government going to ensure that these minimum service levels are fair and balanced and do not affect that right to strike?
Action: Introduces legislation strengthening animal welfare standards in livestock farming — banning cages, ending routine preventative antibiotic use, and limiting the scale of intensive operations.
UK: Higher welfare standards in UK livestock farming may increase production costs, potentially reducing the economic competitiveness of intensive livestock operations relative to plant-based alternatives, which are associated with lower greenhouse gas emissions and land use impacts.
Global: UK animal welfare legislation could raise the floor for export market access standards, encouraging trading partners to adopt similar practices, which may contribute to global reductions in antimicrobial resistance and improvements in animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
